An agriculture-first innovation platform for research, mentoring and transformation.
Driven by its operational strategy of transforming agriculture research, education and entrepreneurship development, SKUAST-K envisions establishing a world-class Agri-Excellence for transforming the agriculture sector of the state and country from sustenance agriculture to smart agriculture. The proposed centre aims to transform agriculture research from traditional agriculture to automation through cutting-edge research. The centre will also help in nurturing, mentoring, and supporting innovative out-of-box ideas in the field of agriculture and allied sectors such as smart agriculture, precision agriculture, water conservation and management. The proposed national program would be a first of its kind in the region and would provide support, a central research facility, motivation, encouragement, networking, collaboration, financial access and investor support to the faculty, researchers, students, entrepreneurs and start-ups. To establish this national program, SKUAST-K has partnered with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), which is a premier research and development organization in India that specializes in high-performance computing, advanced software, and electronics. C-DAC will bring its expertise in multiple areas of ICTE and knowledge base acquired in various national and international level project execution in advanced computing and related technologies.
Research, automation, entrepreneurship support and practical field deployment define the programme direction across saffron, walnut and apple.
Mission and Vision
- To boost the tangible overall economic benefits to the state at large and UT of J&K so that it will emerge as a top performer in farm income and farmer prosperity despite going through unpleasant situations.
- The national program realigned its research priorities in line with farmers' production constraints and livelihood opportunities to create viable and profitable farming systems in the state.
- To act as a catalyst in product-oriented development and validation of solutions from design to prototyping for addressing various issues in the field of Agriculture and allied domains, water, energy and environment using IoT and AI technology.
- National program will also help mentor, facilitate and lead existing, aspiring and future entrepreneurs in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to develop their ideas into business enterprises.
